About

It starts with an interest in bees.

BeeQueenBuzz is a resource for people curious about bees and thinking about their first hive. Our purpose is simple: help you understand the bees, the choices and the care involved.

Why this site exists

A first hive begins with questions. Is my location suitable? What equipment do I need? What will it cost? Can I give a colony the time and attention it needs? Our guides and tools help you work through these decisions before bringing bees home.

There is plenty to be curious about: how a colony works, how bees find food and what happens when they visit a flower. We want that curiosity to lead to thoughtful choices and responsible care.

Understand the bees. Make a thoughtful plan. Keep learning.

Bees matter beyond honey.

Bees and other pollinators help many flowering plants produce seeds and fruit. That connects them to our food supply and to the diversity of life in wild landscapes. Honey bees are part of this picture, alongside wild bees and other pollinators.

Supporting bees can begin with flowers and habitat. Keeping a honey bee colony brings a separate responsibility for its care; adding a hive is not automatically a conservation benefit for wild bees. We want both parts of that story to be visible.

Care comes first

A hive needs ongoing attention, seasonal planning and pest monitoring. Equipment is only one part of becoming a beekeeper.

Useful first steps

Our current guides cover getting started, costs, local rules, hive types and starter kits. Our tools help with planning.

Clear about sources

The starter-kit comparison uses published supplier specifications. It is a researched comparison, without a claim of hands-on testing.

Connected to your area

Climate, forage, equipment and rules vary. A local association, course or mentor helps turn general guidance into a plan for where you live.

Trust grows through clarity.

We aim to explain the basis and limits of our guides. Product prices and availability can change after publication; confirm them with the supplier. The site is a starting point for learning, alongside local training and current official guidance.
